Am I really starting a blog?

Today at my Dad's, my sister Leslie encouraged me to start a blog.  My dream of writing my story and becoming an author came up, and Leslie said that by starting a blog first, I would be able to gain followers, an audience, people who love me, and will someday buy my book!

So, to keep up with my theme of 2017, I thought "Why not?  Let's try it and see what happens."  Shrug shrug, twitch, twitch.  And so here I am with my own domain name and everything!  sarahbhappy.blogspot.com.  Cool.

I'm 38 years old. I'm a wife to my Lovey Jim and a proud Mama to one bonkers, psychotic, mischievious, impatient, perfect, sometimes the worst, but mostly the best little 2 year old Keaton James.  Or Keats as we call him around these parts.  It took a lot of little miracles and a couple enormous ones for Keats to be (which I will tell you about in time).  So when I say I'm a proud Mama.  I mean I'm a PROUD Mama.  I mean I am a HAPPY Mama.  I mean that I am finally doing what I was meant to do. Also, we have a dog named Bones and he is pretty much the same as Keats, only he humps pillows.  And he only does that when we have company.  Shrug, shrug, twitch, twitch.

So far in 2017, I...

  • Took up running and am now a bit addicted to it.
  • I tried Yoga and Pilates and fucking LOVE it.
  • I became a consultant for the skincare line I use Rodan + Fields--something I NEVER thought I would do.
  • I've apparently started this blog.
  • I'm also doing something else totally new, but it's super top secret, so I'll tell you about it later...maybe...if it turns out good.

And I did all these new things basically to make me a better wife and mommy.  I mean the Zoloft I started taking again in 2016 after 8 years off of it helps.  It helps A LOT.  Seriously, Jim will tell you how much it helps.  But, I needed to be able to make Jim and Keats as proud of me as I am of them.  I selfishly totally want them to adore me.  So, I figured, I better start adoring myself. This led me to sign up for a 5k with my sister in law and brother in law in March and I started running in January to train.  And once I started realizing that I could chase Keaton around the house and not be out of breath and ready to sit down after 30 seconds, I was like "oh yeah people, IT IS ON!"  And so now I just bee bop outside before work in the morning and run 3-4 miles and it makes me feel like a badass.  So I keep doing it and I keep getting better and I keep crushing goals.  And then that runner's high makes me a happy lunatic for the men I love and share a home with.  Everybody wins!

Once I started feeling better physically and became more confident, I wanted to be more active all the time. ( I made Jim buy me a basketball hoop that took him and his dad no less than 5 hours to assemble). AND,  my friend Jennie owns an adorable, wonderful Pilates studio that I had always wanted to try out, but just hadn't gotten around to.  But then Jennie sent me this Facebook invite to come and do yoga at the brewery here in town and if I came I would get a free beer afterwards so that was enough motivation for me.  Fun fact about me:  I love beer.  I had never done yoga or Pilates in my life, so I asked Jennie if I would be OK to come to this session at the brewery.  Of course she told me I would absolutely be fine, and of course she selflessly invited me to the studio for a one on one training session with her to teach me the basics.  She taught me a bit of yoga, a bit of Pilates, and a bit on the Pilates equipment which look like torture devices.  Like I said, I fucking loved it.  I've done some sort of yoga or Pilates or equipment once a week since then.  Jennie, you are a kind, sweet, beautiful, Badass.  (and by the way, she also encouraged me to start a blog).  See?  See how many wonderful, amazing cheerleaders I have in my life that are just superior to me in every way, but the positivity, and encouragement I get from them just feeds me!

So, the running is hard and the yoga and Pilates is harder.  And this other inspiring woman in my life and old friend Chelsea started telling me what a boss I would be at selling the skincare products I've been using.  She's an incredibly successful, smart, gorgeous, woman and I didn't think she knew what she was talking about, but I said, I'd do it, because I love her and wanted to make her proud and let's face it, I could also use the extra monies in my pockey and because I'm supposed to be trying new things this year. So, I started that in the beginning of August and had a pretty good first month!  And I'm loving it!  I'm making new friends and  reconnecting with old ones and I'm now in this club of the most supportive women who just build you up and compliment you constantly.  It's empowering to have this little thing that is just mine.  And, I'm providing for my boys also which does in fact make me feel like a boss.

In a nutshell, that's my year so far.  It's been one of my favorites!  If you're reading this, THANKYOU!  I've got a lot to tell you.  Keep reading for more to come!

XOXO

New Cars Come To Those Who Keep Their Old Cars For Way Too Long

Our friends know about The Snowdog.  When we reference the Snowdog, you know that Jim spoke of him with love and I spoke of him with disdain.  The Snowdog is a 1997 Nissan Maxima, pictured on the left with my handsome, perfect, Lovey.  He was riddled with rust spots; He was missing logos; And worst of all, he had an exhaust system so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation while riding in him, and even more impossible to go unnoticed while driving him...rust spots and all.  Which is why I didn't have the nicest things to say about Jim's sweet Snowdog.  But, we have history with that stupid car too.  Jim bought him in 2001 when we first started dating.  I didn't have a working car at the time, so we kind of shared the Snowdog.  You know, back then, it was only a 4 year old car and it was the nicest car my Lovey had ever owned. And it was super sweet of him to let me drive around town in it after I dropped him off at work....

Respecting My Losses

It's Christmas time and my mind's all aflutter.  I LOVE this time of year.  The magic.  The excitement through my son's eyes.  The soothing glow of the lights that is so comforting when you turn off all the  other lights except for those on the tree and mantle.  The wood stacked next to the fireplace.  The warmth of that fire that my husband lights whenever I request it.  It's truly magic.  I used to dread it.  I used to feel like I was never enough, like I never had enough to give, like the pressure of the season was going to force me to implode.   I am so grateful that I'm not there anymore.  That I can appreciate now what seemed like too much in the past.  This write is about how I learned, and am still learning to manage the doubt, loss, and pressure inside of me.  These are not the most up-lifting things, but they are a part of me and I think it's important to share.  Because I am happy.  I am co...
